Organic means working with nature, not against it. It means higher levels of animal welfare, lower levels (preferably none) of pesticides, no manufactured herbicides or artificial fertilisers and more environmentally sustainable management of the land and natural environment – this means more wildlife.
At Down Farm, organic farming means growing with zero chemicals, very little fossil-fuels, positive management of our soils, growing a diverse range of produce, and aiming to have a closed loop system, that is producing all the inputs the farm requires here on site.
Down Farm is in organic conversion, certified by the Soil Association.
